Bipartite Petanque Weekend 2nd June to 4th June 2006

Friday.
Frank Streatfield met the Petanque team from Franconville at Kings Cross mainline station at 5.30pm. Before we boarded the train to Potters Bar some of the French noticed a shopping trolley buried halfway through a wall, this was platform 9 3/4 from the Harry Potter film some took a photograph and found it amusing. We finally got to the Wylliots Manner pub where they met their hosts for the weekend.

Saturday.
Some of the Potters Bar team and the French helped to erect a pavilion to help shade the people and to accommodate the refreshments. The Mayor of Potters Bar arrived to toss the first boule to commence the start of the tournament. By lunch time Potters Bar were leading by 6 game to 4 this was soon to change after lunch. The committee laid on an excellent BBQ; this was prepared by one of the lecturers from the catering department of Southgate college.
The final score was 11 games to 9 to Franconville the team from Potters Bar had a wonderful game and the captain was proud of the result, the best so far. Arris Savvides & Janice Alphonse were given a trophy each from the French for the team with the most points of the English team, these were hand made by one of the French team members.
In the evening 27 of us went to Waltham Stow dog stadium to have a meal and watch the racing. The French team were very pleased to see a message congratulating them on their winning the tournament on the television monitor, every time it was shown a loud cheer went up. We all had a great time including the French, some if not all had never been to a dog race in their lives, after collecting all of our winnings and saying good night we departed the stadium for nightcap and a chat at home before going to bed.

Sunday.
The morning was spent with the hosts before departing from High Barnet underground at 12.30pm to catch the Euro star from Waterloo leaving at 3.15pm. The weekend was a great success and we would like to say thank you to all of the people involved.
